  • a Crown employee (for example, a Royal Navy sailor)
  • not a resident of an EEA State (other than the UK)
  • Royal Fleet Auxiliary employees are eligible for this deduction if they meet all the conditions.

Enter the dates from your Seaman’s Book and it will tell you if you do . You can also add holiday dates if they were outside of the UK

You cannot make a claim until you have reached the qualifying period of 365 days, but you can follow this link and Change Your Tax Banding To Zero then you will not have to pay any tax at all on your seafarers earnings.

Submit the Annual Claim Form and upload your Seaman’s Book and P60 or payslips. You can also use this Handy Calculator (click this link to download).

Enter the dates you departed from the UK and the dates you returned from the UK. Your Seaman’s Book will give you an indication of when these were. You can also add holiday dates if they were outside of the UK

  • worked on a ship
  • worked outside of the UK long enough to qualify for the deduction - usually a minimum of 365 days.
